Stang Auto Tech has been an independent shop since 1980. We are a Customer-centric shop, but we didn't build our reputation for integrity and quality of work without being Technician-centric too. Stang's most valuable asset is its Technicians. Techs keep the business profitable and the customers happy, and we keep our techs happy by compensating them fairly for their expertise, their time-management skills, their commitment to quality, and their attention to detail. Our technicians have a say in the operational decisions that affect their work and personal life.
Stang's customer base continues to grow and our customers continue to recommend us. It feels good to have your integrity and commitment to quality rewarded, so we’re looking for experienced automotive technicians who like how that feels, too, and can deliver on that promise. We pay well. Our benefits package is generous and extensive. If you love to work on cars or love the idea of working on cars, and want to do that in a respectful, supportive team environment, then we would like to talk with you.

HIRING PROCESS
Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?
- This is an option; we have no typical process. We've had first touches through text, email, and in-person. Since we're not using robotic AI and massive HR departments, we have the luxury of being human.
- We do like to understand core competencies required for doing the job. It's great to find out if this is someone you'd 'like to go have a beer with' but the fact is, we have jobs to do and that comes first.
- Character and Attitude are the most important as that is what creates our culture, environment, and reputation.
What do your in-person interviews entail?
- Getting to know each other to understand personality, attitude, and character.
- Interviews are more of an informal conversation that focus on understanding goals, objectives and expectations of everyone involved.
- Applicants are encouraged to meet with any of the other employees, separately or together
Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?
- Background checks are performed with viable candidates, simply as a good practice for hiring.
- We don't screen for drugs as a matter of employment, but we're a drug-and-alcohol-free environment, obviously, and any behavior or incident that warrants a drug test will get one, and evidence of drug use is a cause for immediate termination.
Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?
Yes. But it's not extensive, rigid, or a deal-breaker. lt's typically a simple, written survey to understand where the strengths are and where untapped potential may be hiding.
After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?
Figure 1-2 days after an in-person interview, and 14 days, max, for the entire process.
Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?
On our end, it's 7-14 days. Typically. However, there have been candidates who had decisions to make in terms of relocating or moving out of the industry, and we will invest the time for the right candidate.
Is there anything else you’d like to mention about your hiring process?
It is very flexible and something we work hard at, not rushing into a hire. The candidate, team, and management need to be comfortable that it will be a good fit and all truly understand each others' expectations.

EXPECTIONS
- It’s o.k. not to like a part of your job but it’s not o.k. not to do it. In fact, I don’t expect you to like everything about your job. That’s why we pay you to do it.
- In matters concerning our values and standards, you have a voice but not a vote. I will listen to your input, but I will ultimately decide.
- Everyone on this team will be held to the same high standard of work ethic, customer care, and character, regardless of how high their level of production.
- You are expected to prove yourself over again every day. Tenure, credentials and years of experience don’t substitute for results.
- I will work with you if you continue to make measurable progress in a reasonable time. However, if you reach a point where you hover at or below average performance levels with no upward trend, your future with this organization is in jeopardy.
- I not only expect you to work hard on the job, I expect you to work hard on yourself.
- Our compensation programs will be heavily weighted to reward above average performers and above average results. We will not weaken the strong to strengthen the weak.
- When promotions are available, they will go to the most deserving member of the team regardless of longevity, gender or ethnic background.
- I expect you to focus on what you can control and never assume a victim’s mindset to explain away your lack of success.
- I measure loyalty by performance, not the number of years you cash our paychecks.
- I will give you consistent and honest feedback on performance.
- I expect you to tell me what I need to hear, and not what you think I’d like to hear.
- I will train you and invest in your development, but I also expect you to invest in yourself.
- I expect you to lead by personal example, not personal convenience. This means you must commit yourself to a cause and not commit the cause to yourself.
- Lying, cheating, and stealing are grounds for immediate dismissal.
- I expect you to add value to others on your team. Be a giver and not just a taker.
- You are expected to always do what is right, not what is easy, cheap, popular, or convenient.
- If you have personal problems that affect your work, I will listen, advise and try to help you. However, you are expected to work through the paradox of solving your personal problems while you continue to get results on the job.
- I expect you to become brilliant in the basics of your job.
- I expect you to learn from your mistakes and continue to take shots even when you miss.
- I expect you to avoid repeating the same mistakes.
- I expect you to go over and above the minimum standard on a regular basis.
- You will not whine, gossip or complain about non-work-related issues during company time.
- There is no tolerance for employees who make the numbers but violate the values. Thus, I will measure you by two metrics: performance expectations and behavioral expectations.
- I will listen to explanations for failures, but not excuses. I expect you to take responsibility.
