Stang Auto Tech has been an independent shop since 1980. We are a Customer-centric shop, but we didn't build our reputation for integrity and quality of work without being Technician-centric too. Stang's most valuable asset is its Technicians. Techs keep the business profitable and the customers happy, and we keep our techs happy by compensating them fairly for their expertise, their time-management skills, their commitment to quality, and their attention to detail. Our technicians have a say in the operational decisions that affect their work and personal life.
Stang's customer base continues to grow and our customers continue to recommend us. It feels good to have your integrity and commitment to quality rewarded, so we’re looking for experienced automotive technicians who like how that feels, too, and can deliver on that promise. We pay well. Our benefits package is generous and extensive. If you love to work on cars or love the idea of working on cars, and want to do that in a respectful, supportive team environment, then we would like to talk with you.

HIRING PROCESS
Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?
- This is an option; we have no typical process. We've had first touches through text, email, and in-person. Since we're not using robotic AI and massive HR departments, we have the luxury of being human.
- We do like to understand core competencies required for doing the job. It's great to find out if this is someone you'd 'like to go have a beer with' but the fact is, we have jobs to do and that comes first.
- Character and Attitude are the most important as that is what creates our culture, environment, and reputation.
What do your in-person interviews entail?
- Getting to know each other to understand personality, attitude, and character.
- Interviews are more of an informal conversation that focus on understanding goals, objectives and expectations of everyone involved.
- Applicants are encouraged to meet with any of the other employees, separately or together
Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?
- Background checks are performed with viable candidates, simply as a good practice for hiring.
- We don't screen for drugs as a matter of employment, but we're a drug-and-alcohol-free environment, obviously, and any behavior or incident that warrants a drug test will get one, and evidence of drug use is a cause for immediate termination.
Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?
Yes. But it's not extensive, rigid, or a deal-breaker. lt's typically a simple, written survey to understand where the strengths are and where untapped potential may be hiding.
After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?
Figure 1-2 days after an in-person interview, and 14 days, max, for the entire process.
Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?
On our end, it's 7-14 days. Typically. However, there have been candidates who had decisions to make in terms of relocating or moving out of the industry, and we will invest the time for the right candidate.
Is there anything else you’d like to mention about your hiring process?
It is very flexible and something we work hard at, not rushing into a hire. The candidate, team, and management need to be comfortable that it will be a good fit and all truly understand each others' expectations.

EXPECTIONS
What You Can Expect From Me / What I Expect From You
1. Do the whole job well.
It's okay not to like every part of your job, but it’s not okay not to do it. I expect you to consistently meet the responsibilities of your position and regularly go above the minimum standard.
2. You have a voice, but leadership sets the standard.
I will listen to your input and consider your perspective, but when it comes to our values, standards, and direction, leadership is ultimately responsible for making the decision.
3. Everyone is held to the same high standard.
Work ethic, customer care, teamwork, character, and accountability apply to everyone regardless of position, tenure, credentials, or level of production.
4. Performance must be earned continuously.
Tenure and experience matter, but they do not replace results. You are expected to continue proving your value through your performance, improvement, and contribution to the team.
5. Progress is expected.
I will work with you as long as you are making measurable progress within a reasonable period of time. Consistently average or below-average performance without an upward trend cannot continue indefinitely.
6. Invest in yourself.
I will provide training, coaching, feedback, and opportunities for development, but you are also expected to work hard on yourself. Become brilliant at the basics, continue building your skills, and take ownership of your professional growth.
7. Learn from mistakes.
Mistakes will happen. I expect you to learn from them, continue taking appropriate chances, and avoid turning the same mistake into a repeated pattern.
8. Rewards and advancement are earned through merit.
Compensation and advancement will favor those who consistently deliver above-average performance, demonstrate strong character, and contribute to the success of the team.
9. Take ownership of your results.
Focus on what you can control. I will listen to explanations when things go wrong, but not excuses. Personal challenges are real, and I will listen and try to help, but you are still expected to take responsibility and continue fulfilling your role.
10. Expect honest communication in both directions.
I will give you consistent and honest feedback about your performance, and I expect you to tell me what I need to hear, not simply what you think I want to hear.
11. Lead through your example.
Add value to the people around you. Be a giver, not just a taker. Do what is right rather than what is easy, cheap, popular, or convenient.
12. Results never excuse poor character.
You will be measured by both performance expectations and behavioral expectations. Strong production does not give anyone permission to violate our values or damage the team.
13. Integrity is non-negotiable.
Lying, cheating, and stealing are grounds for immediate dismissal.
14. Protect the culture.
Whining, gossip, and unnecessary complaining have no place during company time. Bring problems forward constructively and help be part of the solution.
