Solutions to Stressful Driving Situations

We know that it can be stressful on the road, especially when you are put into certain situations that can cause anxiety and uncertainty. It is important that we all stay calm and collected while driving to ensure our own safety and the safety of other cars around us. If you ever find yourself stressed out, try to remember the following tips for common stressful situations on the road:

Road Construction - It can be scary when a lane is closed and lots of vehicles are trying to merge out of the way. Road construction can also mean stopped cars along the side of the road and workers walking about. Try to stay calm and understand that the construction can’t be avoided, and that everyone is trying to get to their destination safely.

Backseat Drivers - There’s always that one friend, family member, or spouse that gives advice where it isn’t warranted. If you are unsure about what to do in this situation, we recommend changing the subject or ignoring your backseat drivers advice. You are in control of your vehicle, and as long as you are practicing safe driving, you’ve got this.

You’re Lost - We’ve all been there - lost on the road and aren’t sure what to do. Whether you’ve missed an exit or forgot exactly how to get to your destination, the best thing to do is to find a safe place to pull over and figure out how to get where you are going. A good way to avoid this is to set your smartphone or GPS to the destination beforehand.

Your Phone is Ringing - If you find yourself stressing out because your phone is ringing or receiving messages and you know you shouldn’t look at your phone while driving, don’t stress. If you really need to look at your phone, find a safe street to park on or a public parking lot to pull into. Never check your phone while driving, no matter how important you think the call or text may be.

We hope the advice above will help you stay calm in stressful situations on the road.
